This vegetarian comfort-food mecca is too good to be left to vegetarians. B&H's take on lasagna is crammed with veggies and is filling without being heavy. We also like the stuffed cabbage—the cabbage isn't so overcooked that it loses its pale green color or delicate flavor. But B&H is best known for its soups which are served with thick hunks of crusty home-style bread. The mushroom-barley is famous, the split-pea agreeably light; the other options are hot borscht, veg, cabbage, and Yankee bean. If you need some protein, salmon croquettes (with soup) and fish cakes (with spaghetti) are on the menu. Also available: pierogis, blintzes, veg cutlet parmesan, pasta with veg balls, and sauteed or steamed veg over brown rice with ginger or garlic sauce. The atmosphere is loose and fun as long as you don't mind fitting yourself into a tight spot—all tables are for two.
