The Corner Bistro is famed for its excellent burgers but ambience also plays a large role in its appeal. We're talking about floors that have long lost any trace of varnish, chocolate-brown pressed-tin ceil-ings, dark wood all over the place, and a busy and cheerful bar, though there is seating for a few dozen people. When we first visited we got the best seat in the house—a Happy Pig's-eye view of the tiny kitchen where two hardworking men cooked the meat. The signature burger, served on a paper plate, is a substantial hunk of chuck that'll give your jaws plenty to chew on, the fat and gristle sliding down your throat like the parade of nobles at QEII's coronation. While this is not a place for vegetarians, if you do drag a friend here, there’s also a grilled cheese sandwich for him or her to nibble on while glaring at you.
