For pizza lovers this Brooklyn institution is the center of western civilization. The ancient linoleum is scarred by generations of expectant feet and herbs grow in the window. And the crust! It crunches when you bite into it, but then it's light as a cloud on the inside, and we never knew tomato sauce and cheese—including a "blessing"of sharp grated cheese on top—could taste so good. Key ingredients are either imported or sourced from the best possible domestic suppliers. Take, for example, the sausage. It's a treat, and if you've already had it on pie, try it in a sandwich with peppers or eggs. Also try one of the enormous calzones, with or without prosciutto. Big enough to feed three, it's a thick semi-circle of DiFara's heavenly crust with a castellated edge—break off hunks of crust and dip them in the fluffy ricotta.
