Twenty-nine years after moving to NYC we finally sucked up our courage, took the 2 train to the south edge of Bronx Park, and found our way to Belmont, said to have the city's best Italian food. Crowds spilling onto the sidewalk from highly rated places almost had us leaving hungry. However, Emilia's gave us a warm welcome and the attentive staff gave us a small free tomato salad. Giant Grilled Shrimps Amandarose are wrapped with prosciutto and filled with asparagus and mozzarella. Stuffed mushrooms are densely packed with sausage and gorgonzola. Caesar salad is pleasantly garlicky. Pasta dishes are memorable for their wholesome ingredients: vegetable lasagna served with meatball, spinach-broccoli manicotti, homemade cavatelli shells. Head across the street later and take home one of the eight varieties of biscotti from the Madonia Bros. Bakery.
