The best chicken dish in New York City is Pollo a la Brasa at Flor de Mayo. It hails from Peru, though FDM is actually more of a Cuban-Chinese place. Tender chicken is ennobled by a delightful blend of spices that'll make you want to eat all the skin, regardless of fat content. It comes with a red-pepper sauce containing diced onion. The half-chicken version works for us, though if you want a whole one, no one's stopping you. Be sure to get some yellow rice to go with it. If you're really hungry, add black beans to your order and you won't have to eat again for several days. The place is popular, and peak times can be crowded, so to increase your chances of getting a table, arrive a bit before dinnertime, especially on weekends.
