One of our favorite stops in the Queens neighborhood of Jackson Heights—an easy and scenic elevated 7-train ride from Times —this Indian restaurant which operates as a buffet. It's a large and cheerful place with attractive modern decor. And you have only to look through the front window to see the meat and veg entrees with which you can load your plate. The quality of the food is uniformly good, and very filling, with condiments and sauces (including tasty coriander chutney) also provided. Every table has a pitcher of water sitting on it; we wish we could convince other New York restaurants to offer this nicety. Arrive before noon to beat the rush—the Diner is rather popular among locals—and leave a buck on the table for the hard-working busboys.
