There is a species of New York City diner that transcends its Greek origins to offer a huge, and we mean huge, variety of food. Key West must have more than a hundred choices on its menu including omelets, sandwiches, huge salads, meat and veg entrees, seafood, pasta, sides, and beverages including cocktails (free with weekend brunch after 12 noon). Our favorite item is the chicken souvlaki platter with char-grilled chicken, Greek salad, pita, and fries. Under the same ownership are similar nearby restaurants including the nicely decorated but rather crowded Metro (2641 Broadway between West 99th and 100th streets) and the City Diner (2441 Broadway at 90th Street). But we keep coming back to Key West because it's the friendliest of the bunch—and you'll rarely have to wait in line for a table, except for weekend brunch, when things do get a bit crowded.
