This top-drawer Italian restaurant is located in a dark alley a few blocks north of Wall Street where folks with big bucks abound but good restaurants are scarce. We literally stumbled onto Lorto while working for a lavishly funded Silicon Alley Internet startup—we followed a red carpet up the alley and through the door—and fondly recall sumptuous meals with squads of waiters changing the tablecloth between courses. Pasta dishes are well prepared, the seafood is great, and meats are impressive (most notably the double cut veal chop). Lorto also has a superb wine list—ask the waiter for suggestions and stick with the Italian stuff. We usually spend freely here and never have any regrets. Bring your family from out of town and they'll agree it's worth the trip.
