Jerk chicken is one of the masterpieces of world cuisine. At lovely blue-ceilinged Negril you can have the complex and fiery Jamaican staple as an entree, an appetizer (wings), or as part of the massive Combo Plate. The latter—which might almost be dinner for two—also includes codfish fritters, coconut shrimp, beef patties, subtly spiced skewered chicken, and other goodies. Ackee & saltfish, another favorite of Jamaican patriots, mixes the salted fish with a starchy tree-borne fruit. For something beefier, try oxtail & lima bean stew. Sides include fabulous garlic mashed bananas. Portions are big. And service, despite the place's hectic popularity, is sweet-tempered. Avoid the rush by coming for a quiet weekday lunch (or perhaps just order takeout instead).
