Cash onlyThis little East Village place specializes in fried potatoes. By the way, you shouldn't call them French fries—it was the Belgians, not the French, who invented 'em. The golden sliced potatoes are thicker than the shoestring fries found in most fast-food joints but thinner than steak fries. Among the dozens of available sauces is "traditional European mayo," sweet and slightly tangy. Other mayo variations include roasted garlic, rosemary garlic, pesto, dill lemon, smoked eggplant, mango chutney, tandoori, honey mustard, green olive, sundried tomato, and horseradish. We loved the curry-ketchup (onions optional). Parmesan peppercorn is creamy and just a little peppery. The dijon garlic mustard variety is so powerfully garlicky that you might notice people backing away from you when you board the subway.
