There is, first of all, the pastrami. A friend of ours insists that the pastrami at Sarge's is definitive. But the corned beef hash is more noteworthy because it's made on-premises, and you can really tell the difference, with the meat richly flavored and slightly chewy, and the cubed potatoes fresh and firm—plus a pleasant hint of onion. Overstuffed triple-decker sandwiches include a turkey, pastrami, and Swiss combo as well as smoked salmon, sturgeon, and cream cheese. But the best reason to visit Sarge's is the extraordinary fish feast known as Smoked Fish Supreme which brings together Nova Scotia salmon, sturgeon, whitefish, sable, lettuce, tomato, Bermuda onion, black and green olives, and two jumbo bagels with either scallion or regular cream cheese. There's no better way for two fish lovers to chow down.
